Fish, karaoke and BBQ!
It's been a while again since I last wrote a blog post. That's because I was out a lot this week, so I didn't have much time.
On Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evening I didn't get home, or got home late. There was just so much to do this week!
Eating out
On Tuesday evening a few students from Hutong and I went out to eat at a well-known fish restaurant. It was really special. There were blue lights to give it an 'underwater feel', for example, and nets and all sorts of other fish-related things hanging on the walls, … It was a really cosy restaurant.
We ordered a kind of squid and two big fried fish. One of them was spicy and the other came in the house sauce they're so famous for. It was all really delicious. It was a really good evening.
That evening I also met a few other Belgians. They were applied computer science students too, doing their internship in Shanghai! Here are some photos of the evening:
Beer tasting, as usual!
Like every week, this week we went to the beer tasting at De Refter again. This week it was Italian craft beers. The brewery was called Baladin. I'd never heard of it, but they were really good beers. We went together with the Belgians we'd met at the fish restaurant.
At the beer tasting we also met a German girl and a Mongolian guy. She's only just started working here and he's doing his internship here.
Something really interesting we learned is that in Mongolia they only have banknotes, and the smallest one is a 10 MNT note, which is 0.00385 EUR. Crazy, right, a banknote worth a third of a euro cent! Apparently it isn't a very wealthy country either, but he came from the capital.

KTV (Friday)
On Friday evening there was another karaoke night. This time it was a lot more fun than last time, because we know many more people now. That makes it a bit easier to sing too! It was really great fun, we even bought extra time!

After the KTV we went to another Belgian bar. Astrid is part of an organisation of Flemish people in Shanghai, and they'd organised an event there, so we had to drop by!
Chinese BBQ
So on Saturday, understandably, we had a quiet day. I didn't do very much during the day, but in the evening we went with someone from work to a friend of hers for Chinese BBQ. It was a really amazing experience. We ate all sorts of special things like grilled squid, chicken feet, cow heel, … We ate normal things too, of course, but I had to mention these!
There was quite a lot of beer involved as well: the four of us got through 7 litres. But it was Chinese beer, so not very strong, only 3–4%. So the next day we had no hangover or anything. It was great fun, we're definitely doing this more often!
So it's been a really fun week and I've met lots of nice people!
Until next time!
