First week at the office

Internship

This week is a really busy week straight away. Because we have a long weekend (Sunday to Tuesday), we have a 6-day working week this week. That means Monday to Saturday, 9 hours a day. So it'll be a 54-hour week, probably very tiring!

At my internship I'm working on a kind of "Google Drive/Dropbox" where G2Studio can easily exchange files with their clients. They create an account for a client, and then they have a new exchange with 2 folders: Client and G2S. G2S employees can put files in one folder, the clients in the other. They can't delete each other's files, but they can download them.

I built it in pure PHP without a framework (because the whole platform doesn't use one) and jQuery, jQuery contextMenu and jQuery File Upload. This is what it looks like for now:

Chinese class

The Chinese classes have started again too. We now have class on Wednesday mornings from 8:30 to 10:30. After that we have to go straight to our internship, of course, so a very long day. It's the same class as before, and the same lăoshī (teacher in Chinese).

Chinese class really is useful. The average Chinese person speaks maybe 10 words of English, "hello, thank you and goodbye" included. Without Chinese, 9 times out of 10 you won't be able to make yourself understood to an average Chinese person.

But luckily, with a small basis like I have now, you can already get by!

Beer tasting

Like every Wednesday, we went to the beer tasting at De Refter. This week was special again: Trappist beers. One of them was Achel Trappist, so very close to home!

It's great fun every week. I think we'll be regulars here until we go back home!

  1. Hallo Freek. Ziet er goed uit, maar ik snap er niet zo heel veel van.
Gelukkig zijn er nog de Belgische biertjes.
    Groetjes Jeanne
